Abstract

The invention comprises monazo dyestuffs of formula <FORM:0756578/IV(c)/1> wherein n is 1 or 2 and one of the X's is a -SO2 CH3 group and the other a hydrogen or chlorine atom. They are prepared by coupling a diazo compound from an appropriate aminobenzene-methyl sulphone with 1 - di - (b - hydroxyethyl) - amino - 3 -methyl - benzene or its 6 - methoxy derivative. Specified diazo compounds are 1 - aminobenzene - 2 - or - 4 - methylsulphone, 2 - chloro - 1 - aminobenzene - 4 - methylsulphone, and 4 - chloro - 1 - aminobenzene - 2 - methylsulphone. The dyestuffs may be freely ground with a dispersing agent such as turkey red oil, sulphite cellulose waste liquor or sodium muheptadecyl - N - benzyl - benzimidazole disulphonate and either used as such or dried to form dyestuff preparations. The dyestuffs dye cellulose esters or ethers, superpolyamides and superpolyurethanes in orange or red shades. In examples dyestuffs are prepared from the components specified above.
