Abstract

Azo dyes are made by coupling diazotized 5-nitro-2-aminophenol with components of the formula <FORM:0465298/IV/1> in which R = hydrogen or an unsubstituted alkyl group. They colour lacquers containing organic solvents, particularly cellulose ester lacquers and acetate artificial silk in pink shades and the dyeings can be discharged pure white. For dyeing they are applied with a dispersion agent, e.g. soap, a sulphonated fatty alcohol or sulphite cellulose waste liquor. The dispersion pastes may be dried and powdered. In examples the following components are specified: 3-ethyl- or 3-methyl-(b -g -dioxypropyl)-aminophenol ethyl, methyl, n-propyl or n-butyl ether or the corresponding o -oxyethyl or o -oxypropyl compounds, 3-n-butyl - (b -g -dioxypropyl) - aminophenol methyl ether, 3-(b -g -dioxypropyl)-aminophenol n-propyl ether, 3-n-butyl-(o -oxyethyl)-aminophenol-n-propyl ether, 3-o -oxyethylaminophenol methyl ether, 3-(g -methoxy- or ethoxy-b -oxypropyl)-aminophenol ethyl ether. British Specifications 251,155, 292,180, [both in Class 15 (ii)], and 422,843 and U.S.A. Specification 1,948,208 are referred to.
