Abstract

The invention comprises diazo dyestuffs of the formula: <FORM:0716001/IV(c)/1> where R is the residue of an aromatic o-hydroxy-carboxylic acid. They are made by coupling tetrazotized p-aminobenzoyl-p-phenylene driamine first with 1 mol of an aromatic o-hydroxycarboxylic acid and then with 1 mol of N-acetyl J acid. They dye cotton and regenerated cellulose in red shades but reserve acetate rayon. Examples show the production of dyestuffs where R is the residue of salicyclic, 3-methylsalicylic and 4 : 6-dimethylsalicylic acids. Specification 584,838 is referred to.
