20,649. Chemische Fabrik vorm. Sandoz. Jan. 2, [Convention date]. Disazo dyes dyeing cotton directly are obtained :- (1) by combining a tetrazotized p-diamine with one molecular proportion of salicylic or 1:2:3- cresotinic acid and one molecular proportion of 1-p-sulphophenyl-3-methyl-5-pyrazolone or 1-psulphophenyl-5-pyrazolone-3-carboxylic acid ; (2) by combining a tetrazotized p-diamine with one molecular proportion of one of the abovementioned pyrazolones and one molecular proportion of phenol, and alkylating the product. The products dye cotton orange shades. According to examples :-(1) tetrazotized tolidine is combined with salicylic acid and 1-p-sulphophenyl-3-methyl- 5-pyrazolone ; (2) tetrazotized benzidine is combined with 1-p-sulphophenyl-5-pyrazolone-3-carboxylic acid, and phenol, and the product is alkylated by means of p-toluene sulphonic acid ethylester. Halogen alkyls, alkyl sulphates, or salts of alkyl sulphuric acids may also be used for the alkylation.
