Abstract
518,304. Cutting tools. FERROR STEEL CORPORATION. Oct. 24, 1938, No. 30716. Convention date, Nov. 3, 1937. [Class 82 (i)] Cutting tools, milling tools, drills and the like made from an alloy steel containing as essential ingredients chromium, tungsten, molybdenum and cobalt, in addition to carbon, are characterized by a chromium content of 6 to 16 per cent. and by the total content of all the metallic or metalloid additions, except chromium, being equal to 60 to 100 per cent. of the chromium content. The maximum chromium content is preferably 8 per cent. In one example, the non-ferrous constituents comprise 6À0 per cent. of chromium, 1.0 per cent. of tungsten, 1.0 per cent. of molybdenum, 1.0 per cent. of cobalt, 0.5 per cent. of manganese, 0.5 per cent. of vanadium and up to 1.5 per cent. of carbon. A second example comprises different proportions of the same elements and also silicon, tantalum and copper. The tools may be cast to finished shape from the alloy, and may be hardened at about 900‹C.
