Abstract

518,098. Cables; couplings. BLANCHE, F. Aug. 15, 1938, No. 24039. Convention date, Aug. 20, 1937. [Classes 36 and 38 (i)] A flexible and resilient cable 6 for interconnecting two relatively rotatable bodies 1, 2, Figs. 1 and 2, comprises stranded conductors 7, Fig. 4, having individual insulating coverings 8 and arranged side by side in an insulatng sheath 9 in which are embedded steel cords 10, 11. The sheath 9 may be surrounded by a tarred textile braid or a plaited or braided steel armouring. The cable is folded upon itself and arranged, as shown, in an annular space 3, Figs. 1 and 2, provided between the bodies to be connected, the cable being maintained in contact with the walls of the space by the resilience of the steel cords. The cable is connected to junction boxes 4, 5 carried by the two bodies. In a modified construction the cable comprises two layers of conductors. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 the steel cords may be replaced by an elastic helix surrounding the cable. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
