Abstract

483,714. Cables. YOUNG. H., and NICHOLSON, F. Oct. 23, 1936, No. 28901. [Class 36] A strip-lighting cable comprises two or more conductors each covered with fibrous material impregnated with weather-resisting or waterproof compound and separated from one another by a web or cradle of flexible and non-hygroscopic insulating material, the whole being surrounded by a wound, woven, or braided covering of fibrous material impregnated with the weather-resisting or waterproof compound, which may consist of a paint, varnish, or material of a bituminous, oily, tarry, or waxy nature. The fibrous materials may be cotton, jute, or hemp. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, conductors A, each surrounded by one or more taped, braided, wound, or woven coverings B of fibrous material impregnated with the waterproof or weather-resisting compound, are laid up in grooves C in a cradle D of vulcanized bitumen, or rubber which may or may not be vulcanized. A taping and/or braiding E impregnated with waterproof or weather resisting compound completes the cable. The cradle may be formed in two parts lying in abutting engagement along a plane containing the axes of the two conductors. Fig. 4 shows another construction employing a cradle formed in two parts D<1>, D<11>, and wherein each conductor is completely surrounded by a part of the cradle.
