Abstract

517,970. Moulding concrete blocks. RUEGG, A. E. July 12, 1938, No. 20656. [Class 87 (ii)] Concrete blocks, such as arcuate blocks for lining tunnels, are moulded with recesses by means of rigid "hats" 70 slidable on cores 71 in a closed vibrated mould and moved inwardly to compress the concrete by inflatable rubber bags 72. The mould is lined with wooden bars 76 which may be covered with fabric and with blocks 75, the linings having passage ways leading to suction pipes 79, 80 adapted to remove surplus water and air. The mould is vibrated by bands 84 in engagement with the bars 76. Extensible cores for forming bolt holes are held against the "hats" 70 by means inserted through openings 96 in the upper plate 62 of the mould. The upper and lower plates of the mould engage grooves in the side plates which are reinforced by I-beams 66. Concrete is supplied to the mould through a pipe 88.
