Abstract
226,604. Millspaugh, W. H. Sept. 24, 1923. Casting-machines; moulds; cores; core-bars.- A support for a sand core used in centrifugal machines for casting socketed pipes is itself cast in a centrifugal machine. The shaft 11, Fig. 1, of the machine carries the mould body 10 drilled to receive headed pins 16 to be embedded in the support 20. The end plate 12 carries cores 15 that form openings in the flange 21 of the support. The pins 16 support a flexible reinforcement 35, Fig. 3, that is embedded in the sand of the core together with the projecting parts of the pins. Spaced openings are formed in the core adjacent the support 20 to permit the core to crush when the pipe contracts. Pouring-means as described in Specification 17021/11 may be employed. Core-boxes.-The core is rammed in the twopart box 36, Fig. 3, shaped to receive the flange 21 and carried on a base 30 perforated to pass the opening-forming lugs 32.
