Abstract
517,646. Coke ovens. KOPPERS CO. Aug. 4, 1938, No. 23089. Convention date, Aug. 5, 1937. [Class 51 (ii)] In a coke oven having accessible passageways beneath the oven and regenerator structure, the ports 28 between the regenerators 15 and the heating-flues 18 are controlled by members 36 which can be adjusted from the passageways. Each member 36 has inclined sides and a stem 37 which is a sliding fit in a shaft 34 extending vertically down through the wall 13, a screw adjuster being provided at the lower end in the passageways beneath the battery, for raising and lowering the member through a train of refractory rods 38. Side fins 42 prevent premature mixing of gas and air from the passages 19 at the two sides of the wall 13 when the member 36 is in a raised position. Each member carries a calibrated interchangeable plug 44 of the kind described in Specification 495,074.
