[Class 4] An aircraft includes retractable wings and a retractable undercarriage which may include any alighting elements both capable of being extended by the same mechanism. As shown, an auxiliary wing 2 is retractable into a recess in and is adapted to complete the contour of a main wing 1. The wing 2 is mounted on pivoted struts 5 and 3. The strut 3 forms part of the alighting gear and may include a shock-absorber. When retracted the alighting element is housed in or forms part of the wing 2. The nose of the wing 2 is formed with an adjustable flap operable to facilitate or effect extension of the wing. Two auxiliary wings may abut when extended and the incidence of the wings 2 may be adjustable, in some cases the adjustment is effected concurrently with the extension of the wing. The struts may be foldable. More than two retractable wings may be provided and the invention maybe applied to other than monoplanes.
