[Class 40 (v)] [Also in Group XXXVI] In a press-button tuning system in which a press-button unit can be set to select a station in a small portion of the frequency range, the whole range being covered by units covering a number of overlapping sub-ranges, each press-button has its individual indicating means, and circuits can tune the set to any station within its range. When the button 3, Fig. 1, is depressed, switches are operated to associate the tuning mechanism 13, 6 with the aerial circuits. The button spindle 11 engages pinion 10 so that rotation of the button moves the coil 6 relatively to core 13 and also, by means of rack 15, moves its individual pointer 16 relatively to the common scale 22, Fig. 3, so that a wanted station can be tuned in. Once the unit is set, the station selected can be tuned by depressing the corresponding button. Fine-tuning adjustments can then be made if necessary by rotating the button ; or, if desired, another station in the sub-range can be selected. Instead of variable inductances, the tuning units may comprise variable condensers 16, 17 as shown in Fig. 2. When a circuit comprises two or more tuned circuits, units in all the circuits may be tuned by means of the simple tuning rod 10. The switches operated by the depression of a push-button, as well as selecting the individual unit, may alter the inductance of the aerial coils.
