Abstract
516,142. Heating by electromagnetic induction. FEKETE, A. F. June 21, 1938, No. 18462. [Class 39 (iii)] An inductor winding arranged so that most of the heat developed therein is transferred to the material to be heated is of such nature and dimensions in planes at right angles to the lines of force that the tangent of the angle of phase displacement of the eddy current in the inductor has a value equal to or less than 4. The winding may be a straight conductor of a coil. The material 3, Fig. 2, to be heated is arranged inside a coil 1 surrounded by heat insulation 4. In Fig. 3, water or molten lead 9 to be heated flows around the inside of a heat insulating coil 7, containing a solid or liquid inductor 6. In a further modification liquia to be heated may pass through the coil itself. Current is supplied to the apparatus from an auto-transformer or through a system of condensers in which case the coil serves as a balancing reactance.
