Abstract

597,524. Heating metals by electromagnetic induction. SOC. FRANCAISE RADIO-ELECTRIQUE. April 26, 1945, No. 10570. Convention date, Dec. 1, 1942. [Class 39 (iii)] A metal workpiece is heated by a highfrequency inductor 1 connected to a secondary 2a of a transformer which is housed with a condenser 3 in a separate container 10. A separate container 20 houses the oscillator valve 4 and associated components. Electrical connections are made between the two containers by means of flexible cables. The primary coil of the coupling transformer is wound in two parts 2b<1>, 2b<2> of copper tube arranged coaxially and connected in parallel across the condenser 3. Cooling fluid is passed through the coils and condenser in series as indicated by arrows in Fig. 5 so that it enters and leaves at points of earth potential. Cooling fluid is also passed through the secondary 2a of the transformer and the heating inductor. Several containers housing a coil and condenser may be fed in turn from a common valve oscillator.
