Abstract
599,306. Electric induction heating. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., and MADDOCK, A. J. Nov. 19, 1943, No. 19383. [Class 39 (iii)] In the heating of metals by high-frequency electric induction, the field of the inductor coil is confined to those parts which it is desired to heat by attaching a screening member to the inductor coil instead of to the object heated. In Fig. 1 a rectangular coil A has screens S1, S2 attached for a short length only, to the coil at the centre as shown, or at either end, whereby no appreciable current is carried by the screws. A circular coil may have semicircular screens surrounding it, attached at one of their ends only. A coil A of two turns for heating the edges of a slot K may have screens S1, S2 of saddle shape attached at X, Y so that the coil can be readily lowered over the work. Similar methods may be adopted for shielding inside the coil, e.g. by a circular disc screen attached at one point. Specifications 574,751 and 580,019 are referred to.
