Abstract
515,848. Boot-trees. COLLETT, C. O. June 14, 1938, No. 17588. [Class 17 (iii)] In a device for holding footwear for cleaning or other purposes consisting of a bracket structure carrying toe and heel engaging portions forced apart by spring action, the toe and heel engaging portions are carried on depending arms which can be locked in their spring-adjusted position within the shoe. As shown in Fig. 1, a tubular stem 1 hinged on a plate 2 secured to a wall or other support has an arm 3 constituting the heel engaging portion of the device at its forward end. Slidably mounted in the stem 1 is a rod 4 normally forced outward by a compression spring 6 and carrying an arm 5 on the end 13 of which varying sizes of toe engaging shapes may be fixed. The arm 5 is locked in position by a set screw 11 while a spring-pressed pin 12 engaging a slot in the rod 4 prevents its complete withdrawal from the stem 1. In the modified form shown in Fig. 4, the heel engaging arm 3 is pivoted at 18 by a spring controlled pivot so that it is normally pressed in an inoperative position against the arm 1 but can be locked in any operative position by a set screw 21. The arm 5 is adjustable by means of a set screw 20.
