Abstract
1385. Green, A.R. Jan. 19. Trees and stretchers.-For the pnrpose of straightening, and so preserving the shape of, boots and shoes, a base-plate A is provided with a clip B for engaging the toe of the sole, and with a bridge or the like D carrying a pressure rod E, by means of which the heel end of the boot &c. is forced downwards. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the bridge D is provided with one or more sockets D' to receive the pressure-rod E, which, when the boot &c. has been straightened, is secured by a set-screw F &c. In the form shown in Fig. 3, the bridge D is pivoted at the base so that it can be folded down in either direction; it is maintained in operative position, as shown, by a tie-rod d. The base-plate may be made in two parts and capable of adjustment by a screw and s!ot A<3>, A<2>, &c., Fig. 6; in this case, the base-plate is provided with legs a. In another form, the clip B is made integral with the base-plate. In the form shown in Fig. 8, the rod E is mounted in a support D secured in brackets G on the base-plate by pins K, L, one of which forms a pivot and the other a locking-pin. In the form shown in Fig. 9, the bridge D extends longitudinally, and the clip B is adjustable. In another form, the pressure-rod is carried by a lever pivoted to a support at the heel end of the base-plate; in use, this lever is pressed down between two uprights at the toe end of the base-plate, and is secured by a pin passed through two of a series of alined holes in the uprights. In the form shown in Fig. 13, the rod E is threaded and works through a nut N' carried by a yoke N, which is pivoted at one end to the support D and is provided at its other end with a hook P<1> for engagement with a loop P.
