shoes in a convenient positionwhile polishing the same. p Y y An important object of the present invention is to provide a shoe clamp of this character adapted for use either as a fixed Vsupport when attached to a wall or other' suitable supporting structure for firmly holding the shoes in a kdesired position while shining thejsame, or in which the device may 'be used' asa portable shoe support for mounting on the knees of a person while shining the shoes.

A further object of the invention is to provide a shoe clamp of this character which may be folded into compact form when not in use.

A still further object of the invention is to provide a device of this character of simple and practical construction, which is strong and durable, eicient and reliable in use, relatively inexpensive to manufacture and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.

Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction andoperation as more fully hereinafter describedand claimed, reference ,being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like reference numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which- Figure 1 is a side elevational view,

Referring now to the drawings in detail, wherein, for the purpose of illustration, I have disclosed a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 5 designates a base generally which includes a fixed inner section 6 and a pivoted outer section 1 including a pair of rearwardly projecting apertured ears 8 projecting fromr the 4 Claims. The upper" surfacev of the pivoted `section -1 is formed with a raised, transverselyextending stop II adapted for engagement by the heel I2 of a` shoe, slipperor the like I3 when supported on the base 5 in the manner as illustrated in4 Figure 1 of the drawing.

A post I4 is attached at'its lower end to the rear edge of the xed section I5i of the base andl rises therefrom andl formed with a forwardly curved upper end I5. A clamping arm IB is pivotally attached to the front, upper end of the post I4 by means of a pin I1, the arm having a rearwardly curved upper end I 8 positioned at one side of the curved upper end I5 of the post.

To the lower end of the arm I6 is attached a pad I9 adapted for positioning within the shoe I3 Vfor bearing against the arch portion thereof.

The lower edge of the upper end I8 of the arm I6 is formed with a notch 20 adapted for receiving the angular end 2| of a link 22 pivoted at its other end to a cam 23 which is pivoted to the upper portion if the post I4 by means of a pin 24. The cam includes a handle 25 for raising and lowering the cam into a position for releasing the arm IE to permit raising of the a compact form, when not in use, and the straight notches 9 in the front edge of the fixed section 6 confronting edges of the

6 and 1 of the base limit the downward swinging movement of the section 1 so as to provideV a rigid support for the shoe when the device is in -its open position. y

The upper surface of the pivoted front section 1 of the base is formed with a longitudinally extending slot 26 to receive the arm I6 when th device is in its folded position.

The transversely extending stop member II is formed with a kerf 21 at its rear edge to receive a strap 28 for attaching the base on the knee of a person while shining the shoe clamped on the base,vthus to enable use of the device as a portable shoe clamp. It will also be apparent that'r the base E'may be attached to a wall or other suitable supporting structure, if desired, for per-v manently attaching the clamp in position. n

In view of the foregoing description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, it is believed that aV clear understanding of the construction, operation and advantages of the device will be quite apparent to those skilled in this'art. A more detailed description is accordingiy deemed unnecessary.

d It is to be understood, however, that even though I have herein shown and described a preferred embodiment of my invention that the same is susceptible to certain changes fully compr'ei hended by the spirit of theinvention as herein described and the scope of the appended claims.
