Abstract

515,659. Promoting water circulation in steam boilers. MACLEOD, J. June 25, 1938, Nos. 18906 and 31566. [Class 123 (ii)] Circulation tubes 4 in the combustion chamber of a Scotch boiler are connected at their upper ends to ported tubular bolts 9 serving as tiebolts between supporting girders 10 and the crown of the combustion chamber. Each tubular bolt contains a non- return valve. Feedwater is supplied through a pipe 15 to to injectors at junction of two internal pipes 8a 8, of which the pipe 8a draws water from the bottom of the boiler, and the pipe 8 conducts the feedwater together with water from the pipe 8a to pipe 6 below the grate and opening into a header 5 at the lower end of the circulation tubes 4. The circulation is controlled by valves 7 in the pipes 8.
