Abstract

515,384. Cartons. BARLOW, R., and COWAN, A. F. May 31, 1938, No. 16246. [Classes 18 and 66] A carton for biscuits &c. consists of a tubular cardboard body portion A ... D, formed by folding a blank, and inset ends E having flanges e engaging over the ends of the body. The end portions may be of the same material as the body part and may be integral therewith or they may be formed from metal. The meeting edges 2, which are secured together by adhesive to complete the tubular body part, project as flaps which are slit or weakened at 3 to facilitate tearing, and weakening lines 6, leading from this tearing line, are formed in the cover part A to enable an opening to be formed therein. The carton may be stitched along the tearing lines so that opening may be affected by pulling the thread. The cartons are not necessarily of rectangular section but may be of cylindrical or other form; they may be formed from waxed cardboard or may be waxed subsequent to manufacture, so that adhesion of the contacting parts may be effected by heat and pressure without the use of additional adhesive.
