515,264. Image intensifiers. LUBSZYNSKI, H. G. May 27, 1938, No. 15876. [Class 39 (i)] In an image intensifier using secondaryemitting grids as described in Specification 457,493, to prevent blurring of the amplified image the strength of the magnetic field, the potential applied to the electrodes and their spacings are co-related so that any primary electrons from the photo cathode P passing through the mesh of grid G<1> are focussed on to the grid G<2> after describing an integral number of revolutions ; any secondaries from the grid G<1> passing through the grid G<2> are similarly focussed on the grid G<3> and so on. Formulae given relating the distance between the electrodes to the applied voltages and magnetic field may take into account the emission energies of the secondary electrons. The multiplier may be designed with some spacings obtained by formulae ignoring these energies and -some spacings taking them into account.
