Abstract

486,437. Electron multipliers. FERNSEH AKT.-GES. Dec. 2, 1936, No. 33033. Convention date, Dec. 2, 1935. [Class 39 (i)] In electron multipliers wherein the electron stream is caused to impact alternately upon each of a pair of secondary emission cathodes the electrons being accelerated between successive impacts, one or both secondary emission cathodes 1, 3 are made of foil through either or both of which the high speed primary electrons are caused to pass to enter the multiplying chamber between the cathodes. The cathodes may be inclined towards each other, so that the multiplication of parts of the stream will depend on the point of entry. The positively biassed anode 2 may be a screen, net, grid, foil or ring ; it may be of mesh of varying size, giving a varying multiplication effect. The cathodes are of silver or silvered aluminium foil which may be oxidized and sensitized by caesium, beryllium or other alkali or combination of metals.
