Abstract

514,546. Foot-measuring appliances. JEFFRIES, C. W., and PADMORE & BARNES, Ltd. Aug. 27, 1938, No. 25219. [Class 17 (iii)] A device for inspecting and measuring feet more especially for locating the position of the metatarsal arch for positioning an arch support in footwear comprises a transparent foot-supporting surface upon which is means for engaging and locating a part of a foot placed thereon and under which surface is a mirror to reflect the under view of the sole of the foot to an observer at one end or one side. As shown, Figs. 1, 3, the device comprises side walls 10, 11, a front wall 12 and a low rear wall 18 forming supports for a glass plate 13 and a mirror 16, so that an image of the sole of a foot on the plate 13 in the mirror 16 may be viewed from the rear above the top of the rear wall 18. One or more lamps 19 may illuminate the interior. A device with a fixed heel and an adjustable toe abutment 26 movable against a scale 27 may be supported on brackets 22, 23 on one side wall 11 to measure the length of the foot, and an adjustable heel abutment 34 is set to correspond with the length of the foot on a scale 42 adjacent the plate 13. The position of the metatarsal arch may then be observed in relation to markings 32, 33 on the plate 13, one for each foot, and the support positioned in a shoe having corresponding markings, as described in Specification 514,545.
