Abstract
513,928. Enamels and glazes. SOC. DE PRODUITS CHIMIQUES DES TERRES RARES, and PAQUET, M. May 5, 1938, No. 13494. [Class 56] An opaque vitreous enamel contains 11.9-15 per cent. of alumina and an opacifying agent in the form of a cerium compound, the content of cerium oxide being 1.7-3.5 per cent. The alumina is preferably introduced in the form of felspar and kaolin, the quantity of kaolin being 6-10 per cent. of the total quantity of the frit. Calcium fluoride may be used as a constituent in quantity sufficient to yield 6-7 per cent. of calcium oxide in the finished enamel. The calcium can be replaced wholly or partly by other divalent metals such as barium, zinc, or magnesium. Zirconia or titanium oxide, or both, may be included.
