Abstract
463,790. Vitreous enamelling. SHEPPARD, S. R. July 30, 1935, No. 21597. [Class 56] [Also in Groups XXXVI and VIII] Aluminium articles having an oxide coating produced by anodic treatment are further coated with a paste containing silica or siliceous material such as powdered glass and two or more metal oxides, e.g. oxides of lead, tin, aluminium or titanium ; the coating is then dried and fused to form a glaze. A suitable paste is composed of SiO2 59 per cent, K2O 2À5 per cent, Na2O 3À25 per cent and PbO 35À25 per cent. Alternatively a mixture of silicates, preferably ofeutectic proportions, may be precipitated in the pores of the oxide coating and, after drying, fused to form a glaze to which further ceramic glazes may be applied.
