Abstract
An opacifying pigment consists of glass particles of 1-60 microns in diameter, each containing dispersed particles of an oxide of titanium or zirconium of 0.01-1.0 micron in diameter. The pigment is made by melting a glass batch containing 5-40% of the oxide, cooling suddenly to give a frit, calcining at 600-1000 DEG C. (preferably 700-800 DEG C.) to cause precipitation of the oxide, and finally grinding. The glass frit may contain in addition to the 5-40% oxide, 30-60% SiO2, 0-15% B2O3, 0-7% F2, 0-15% Al2O3, 5-15% R2O group (Na2O, K2O, Li2O), 0-15% RO group (CaO, MgO, BaO, ZnO) and 0-10% P2O5. The pigments may be employed with linseed oil, varnish, turpentine and resin paint and coating media.ALSO:An opacifying pigment consists of glass particles of 1-60 microns in diameter and each containing dispersed particles of an oxide of titanium or zirconium of 0.01-1.0 micron in diameter. The pigment is made by melting a glass batch containing 5-40% by weight of the oxide, cooling suddenly to produce a frit, calcining at 600-1000 DEG C. (preferably 700-800 DEG C.) to cause precipitation of the oxide, and finally grinding. The glass frit may contain in addition to the 5-40% of the oxide,30-60% SiO2, 0-15% B2O3, 0-7% F2, 0-15% Al2O3, 5-15% R2O group (Na2O, K2O, Li2O), 0-15% RO group (CaO, MgO, BaO, ZnO) and 0-10% P2O5.
