Abstract
1391384 Glass composition OWENS-CORNING FIBERGLAS CORP 18 April 1973 [28 April 1972 (2) 11 Sept 1972] 18781/73 Heading C1M A fiberizable, boron and fluorine free glass composition, comprises in per cent by weight 54-64 SiO 2 , 9-19 Al 2 O 3 , 9-25 CaO, 0-6 TiO 2 , 0-10 MgO, 0-6 ZnO, 0-6 SrO, 0-6 BaO, 0-5 Li 2 O, 0-2À5 MnO, 0-2À5 Na 2 O, 0-2À5 K 2 O, 0-2 ZrO 2 , 0-1 Fe 2 O 3 , some lithia or titania being always present and the balance, if any, consisting of other compatible constuents, the composition having a liquidus temperature of 2245 F. or less and a viscosity of log 2À5 poises at 2495 F. or less. Four component glasses of the invention consist essentially of, in per cent by weight, 54-60% SiO 2 , 9-14À5% Al 2 O 3 , 17-24% CaO, and 3-6% TiO 2 . Five component glasses consist essentially of 54À5-60% SiO 2 , 9-14À5% Al 2 O 3 , 17-24% CaO, 3-5% TiO 2 and 1À5-4% MgO. Six component glasses consist essentially of 54À5-60% SiO 2 , 9-14À5% Al 2 O 3 , 17-24% CaO, 2-4% TiO 2 , 1À5-4% MgO and 1-5À5% RO wherein RO is an oxide selected from ZnO, SrO and BaO calculated as ZnO. Numerous examples of the above 4-, 5- and 6-component glasses are given. The glass may include Cr 2 O 3 , vanadium oxides, phosphates, and oxides of sulphur as impurities.
