Abstract

702,059. Glass composition. PILKINGTON BROS., Ltd. Oct. 16, 1951 [Nov. 13, 1950], No. 27640/50. Class 56 A chemically resistant glass containing 2-20 per cent. by weight of MnO 2 includes Cr 2 O 3 to maintain the MnO 2 in the higher oxide form. Up to 2 per cent. of Cr 2 O 3 may be included. The approximate weight percentage composition of two examples is (1) SiO 2 65.0, CaO 0.65, MgO 0.35, ZnO 1.0, Al 2 O 3 3.0, B 2 O 3 6.0, Na 2 O 13.0, MnO 2 10.0, Cr 2 O 3 1.0, and (2) SiO 2 55.0, CaO 3.0, MgO 2.0, Al 2 O 3 2.0, B 2 O 3 6.0, Na 2 O 12.0, MnO 2 18.0, Cr 2 O 3 2.0. The glasses are suitable for use in chemical plant ware, glass coated metals, and the production of glass fibres.
