[Class 56] An enamel coating composition for coating ferrous metals consists of a mill formula ' including an aqueous alcohol vehicle, a bonding compound having a base of antimony trioxide and titanium hydroxide and including nickel chloride and sodium zirconium silicate, and a blend of a raw glass batch of relatively high maturing temperature with a eutectic frit of relatively low maturing temperature. The composition, preparation, and application of the enamel differs from that disclosed in Specification 634,477 in two respects, namely: (1) the bonding composition is prepared by grinding in a ball mill a colloidal suspension of 62 parts Sb 2 O 3 , 0.93 part Ti(OH) 2' and 37.07 parts water, drying, and adding and mixing 5 parts nickel chloride and the opacifying and oxidizing compound as follows: ZrO 2 84.46, TiO 2 0.19, SiO 2 7.92, ferric oxide 0.11, alkali oxides 5.43, Al 2 O 3 0.42, and water 1.47; (2) the metal sheet is preferably plain pickled, i.e. not nickel dipped.
