[Class 56] A glossy coating is produced on a metal, glass or ceramic surface by coating the surface with a composition obtained by fusing together boric acid or boric anhydride and lead oxide in the proportion of PbO 89-91 per cent and B 2 O 3 9-11 per cent after the fused composition has been cooled and crushed. The coated surface is now heated until the first appearance of the glossy coating and is then immediately withdrawn from the source of heat. Stabilizing agents such as 0.5-5.0 per cent of kaolin, felspar, alkaline phosphates or the oxides of Zn, Ni, Co. Sn. Al or Si may be added to the compositions which melt below 450‹C.
