Abstract
511,810. Refrigerating. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC & MANUFACTURING CO. July 5, 1938, No. 19874. Convention date, July 28, 1937. [Class 29] Compression systems. A refrigeration system of the compression type is charged, and the non- condensable gases removed, by connecting a container of refrigerant to the high pressure side of the system and operating the compressor to transfer the refrigerant to the system and the non-condensable gases to the container, after which the connection is sealed and the container removed. The system is first dried and charged with lubricant through the conduct 20 which is then sealed. The compressor 12 is operated for about two minutes to evacuate air or gas from the low pressure side through a standpipe 26 and a container 31 is secured to the standpipe while the compressor is still operating. The compressor is then stopped and the container valve 29 opened. The compressor is then restarted and run continuously for about one hour. A purging plug 25 is provided. In a system in which the capillary tube 18 is replaced by a float valve, the container is connected to the top of the float valve tank.
