Abstract
3779. Akt. - Ges. der Maschinenfabriken Escher Wyss et Cie. March 11, 1914, [Convention date]. Channels in refrigerating-apparatus.-A refrigerating-machine is provided with a device for automatically transferring liquid lubricant from the evaporator to the suction chamber when the machine is stopped and re-started. A collecting- chamber 11 for lubricant is placed in the path of the refrigerant between the condenser 4 and the evaporator 7. When the machine is stopped, the gradual increase of pressure in the evaporator due to leakage forces the lubricant up a pipe 12 into a chamber 13, which contains two non-return valves 16, 17 in series. The valve 17 works in an inner cylinder 18 connected to the suction chamber 8 by a pipe 14. When the machine is re-started, a partial vacuum is formed in the chamber 8, and the lubricant in the chamber 13 is drawn past the valve 17 and up the pipe 14. In a modification, the chamber 13 is placed inside the collecting- chamber 11, and the pipe 14 passes through the evaporator 7. If the lubricant used is lighter than the liquid refrigerant, the pipe 12 is connected to the evaporator 7 at a point at which it will receive the lubricant floating on the refrigerant, when the liquids are subjectsd to the increase pressure in . the evaporator.
