[Class 83 (iv)] In a continuous rolling-mill train arranged side by side as in 1 to 5, separate plain or change speed gears a are located between each roll pair to drive the bottom rolls of each pair at the required increasing peripheral speeds, the top rolls being undriven follower rolls only. This layout may be proceeded and followed by three continuous roll pairs in line, driven by an electric motor at each end (Fig. 3, not shown).
