Abstract

510,113. Cleaning carpets. METTLER, H. W. July 23, 1938, No. 21954. [Class 138 (i)] [Also in Group XXVIII] Carpets, sacks, &c. are cleaned by passage over a suction trough containing a beater constituted by a rotary cylinder 6 bearing blades disposed at an angle to the shaft. Two or more such beating and suction troughs may be provided for successive operation. The blades may be tubes soldered to the cylinder. Several sets of blades may be provided on a cylinder at different angles. When treating flour sacks, a vessel may be provided to catch the residual flour which is discharged by the beating. A movable bar may be located near the suction trough, so that a sack &c. placed over the trough is drawn against and moves the bar to close a contact in the circuit of the motor driving the beater.
