Abstract
509,961. Regenerators &c. for furnaces. LOHOFF, H. July 20, 1938, No. 21523. Convention date, Aug. 24, 1937. [Class 64 (i)] The lower zones of the checker work of regenerators or heat accumulators are filled with bricks having one or more cavities arranged longitudinally or transversely to their length and isolated from the gases flowing through the chequer work, the upper zones of the regenerator being filled with solid bricks. Fig. 1 shows a regenerator with the bricks b of the lower zones formed with cavities c, the bricks a of the upper zones being solid. The bricks b may be divided into shorter lengths with the cavities c closed at their ends, as shown in Fig. 4, the ends of the bricks resting on bricks arranged transversely below. Partitions f may divide the cavities. The cavities of the shorter bricks shown in Fig. 4 may communicate to form passages as shown in Fig. 1. The cavities of the bricks may be of various forms in crosssection and may be filled with metal or an insulating substance such as kieselguhr, spun. glass and the like.
