Abstract
509,906. Barometers; altimeters. JAEGERAVIATION. Jan. 24, 1938, No. 4327/39. Convention date, Feb. 3, 1937. Divided out of 509,904, [Group XIII] [Class 106 (ii)] Barometers or altimeters are provided with a capsule having a thin flexible wall arranged in an enclosure in communication with the atmosphere the pressure of which is required, the capsule and enclosure being maintained automatically at a constant temperature. The capsule has a bottom 27 and a wall of very flexible material and is contained in an enclosure 28 of good heat conductibility made say of copper or brass. The control device comprises two vapour chambers 21, 22 containing the same generating liquid with a common deformable wall 23 which acts on the moveable blade 24 of a contact-maker controlling the supply of current to an electric heating resistance 25 in close contact with the wall 26 and also with the bottom 27 of the capsule. The whole is arranged in a heat insulating casing formed by a Dewar's flask 29 closed by a plug 30 of heat insulating material. The enclosure 28 is in communication with the atmosphere through a tube 31 and the rigid front face of the capsule is connected by a rod 33 to an indicating pointer 34. In a modification the vapour chambers are at each end of the chamber 28 and are connected by pipes at the top and bottom. The resistance at the front end and the switch arrangement at the rear.
