Abstract
958,835. Refrigerators; convertible hot plate and refrigerators. DOLE REFRIGERATING CO. July 29, 1960 [Aug. 3, 1959], No. 26560/60. Headings F4H and F4W. A combined heating-refrigerating plate, which may be used in vehicles, comprises two side walls 1, 2 connected together about their edges so as to form a sealed container within which is housed a coil A of heat-conductive material, the space within the plate and surrounding the coil being largely filled by a eutectic, the coil A having at its ends two open-ended tubes 11, 12 which extend right across the plate from one edge to an opposite edge so that the open ends of the tubes can be plugged or connected in circuit with a refrigerating system, and an electrical resistance heater 27 removably arranged in one of the open-ended tubes. A partial vacuum may be produced within the plate by drawing out air through a fitting 21. The resistance heater 27 may be elongated and extend along most of the length of the tube 11 or 12 in which it is arranged. The heater 27 is connected to one or more thermostats which regulate its temperature.
