509,781. Fluid-pressure brakes. INDIARUBBER, GUTTA PERCHA & TELEGRAPH WORKS CO., Ltd., TARRIS, F. J., and BROWN, A. G. Jan. 20, 1938, No. 1958. Addition to 477,550. [Class 103 (i)] In vehicle brakes of the type comprising friction elements and an expansible tube for operating them located in a trough, members extending transversely of the trough between adjacent friction elements are in the form of release springs for the friction elements or housings or supports for such springs and the friction elements have projections at their ends which overlie or underlie the members on one side only. An expansible tubular, member 17 is disposed in a trough formed by the part 10 of the wheel disc 11, a flange 12 thereof and a side part 15 bolted to the flange. Adjacent edges of friction elements 18 abut on transverse bridge pieces 19 secured within the trough and a leaf-spring 24 for disengaging the friction elements from the drum, is disposed between each bridge piece and a projection 21 on the friction elements. The central part of the pieces 19 may be removed so as to leave parts, similar to those described in the parent Specification for retaining the springs 24 and for preventing circumferential movement of the friction elements. The leaf-springs may be replaced by coil springs. In a further modification, the friction elements may have projections to overlie transverse members formed as springs or housings or supports for such springs.
