Abstract

[Class 8 (ii)] [Also in Group X] An air-filter for purifying the air supplied to gas proof chambers comprises a box a with an air tight cover b, and a removable filter basket f having a perforated bottom g which depresses a lever arm o attached to a weighted flap valve n which uncovers an opening m in an air supply duct l. When the basket f is removed for renewal, the valve n falls and closes the aperture m, cutting off the entry of the outside air. A fan p operated either by an electric motor q, or by gearing from a handle r draws air down a downcast shaft k through duct l, filter f, and cowl t, the purified air being discharged into the chamber. When valve w, is opened against pressure of a spring x by lever y, air is drawn direct into the fan through duct v. The filter basket is held in rubber gaskets c, c<1>, and contains a layer of wool g<1> between perforated plates h, g and a layer of activated charcoal h' between perforated plates i, h.
