Abstract

521,061. Filtering gases. YUILLE (METAL WOOLS), Ltd., J., and BAKER, G. D. Nov. 12, 1938, No. 32991. [Class 8 (ii)] Inclined filter screens 10 of metal wool &c. are located between the valved inlet 2 and valved outlet 3 of a chamber through which gas to be filtered is passed, and sets of interconnected louvres 11 are located between the screens ; the louvres and the valves are connected so as to open and close simultaneously and when both are closed cams 12 are rotated to tap the screens, which are pivoted at their upper ends. A weighted lever may hold the valves in either required position. The cams may be actuated by hand ; or from the fan shaft or its motor, through a clutch and reduction gearing, the clutch and valve having locks which prevent the clutch being engaged before the valve is closed and prevent the valve being opened before the clutch is disengaged. Alternatively, the valve may be opened by a pull cord connected to the electric starter of a motor which drives the cams. Specification 458,629 is referred to.
