509,097. Lubricating - compositions ; benzal stearic acid. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP DE BATAAFSCHE PETROLEUM MAATSCHAPPIJ. Sept. 9, 1938, No. 26413. Convention date, Sept. 18, 1937. [Class 91] [Also in Group IV] Ring-sticking is prevented in Diesel engines by adding to the mineral lubricating-oil used therewith a small amount of a salt of a polyvalent metallic or amphoteric element and a higher fatty acid in which an aromatic group is bound to the fatty acid chain, preferably in the alpha-position, by means of an aliphatic chain, preferably not containing more than one double bond and consisting of one or more, preferably at most three, carbon atoms. The said salt may be formed in the oil by adding a salt of a higher fatty acid and a polyvalent metallic or amphoteric element thereto, and an aromatic aldehyde. The magnesium, aluminium, calcium, barium salts of benzal stearic acid are specified as examples. U.S.A. Specification 2,081,075 is referred to.
