LUBMGATING COMPOUND.
Ho Drawing.
fatty oil and saponifying with caustic soda.
1 have discovered that the admixture of a small quantity of lead Soap to the compound increases the lubricating value of the product and forms a lubricant particularly adapted for lubricating heavy bearings.
In accordance with my invention I employ suitable portions of alkali soap such as soda 7 soa mineral oil and a small portion of lea soap, ordinarily about 10%. As a specific example of the invention I may give the following:
Fatty oil (e. g. tal1ow) 40. 00% Alkali (e. g. caustic soda)- 8.00%
Lead soap 10.00 Mineral oil. (cylinder stock) 32.75
Water Application filed December 11, 1920. Serial No. 4300M).
The proportion of lead soap used will depend upon the particular use for which the compound is intended. For the preparation of a solid lubricating cake, however, the
proportion will not ordinarily exceed 20% and will generally be around 10%.
Any suitable mineral oil may be employed in the preparation of the compound. in the example given above a parafin cylinder stock was used but the mineral oil content ma comprise a mixture of paraflin lubrieating stock and an asphaltic residue such as flux oil.
What I claim is:-
1. A lubricant comprising an alkali soap, a mineral oil, and lead soap which in quantity constitutes approximately 10% of the compound.
40%Fatty oil,
8%-Caustic soda, 10%Lead soap,
-33%Mineral oil,
9%-Water.
3. A lubricant comprising a petroleum cylinder stock admixed with an alkali soap and a lead soap which in quantity constitutes approximately 10% of the compound. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my 'hand this 1st da of December, 1920.
MORRlS C, GUNDY.
2. A lubricant comprising approximately-
