Abstract

509,052. Supply systems for discharge lamps. VEREKER, H. C., and STICKLEY, W. A. Jan. 18, 1938, No. 1667. [Class 38 (iv)] A transformer having a predetermined magnetic leakage is used for feeding simultaneously both a vapour or gas-filled discharge lamp 13 of the type usually operated with an inductance in series with it, e.g. a mercury vapour lamp, and a discharge lamp 16 of the neon tube type usually fed from a transformer having a comparatively high no-load voltage, the primary 12 of the transformer being connected in series with the mercury type tube 13 across the source of supply 11, whilst the neon type tube 16 is connected across the secondary winding 15. The transformer may be of the shell type, with primary and secondary windings carried on a single core and separated by a bridge or portion 14 forming the leakage path. The envelopes of the lamps may be separated or combined.
