Abstract
508,922. Reciprocating picks. KRUPP AKT.-GES., F. Sept. 17, 1938, No. 27177. Convention date, Oct. 1, 1937. [Class 59] In a mill of the type in which the material is fed on to a horizontal or slightly inclined support maintained in motion throughout the breaking operation, which operation is performed by impact members arranged in series and arranged to fall freely on the material under gravity, the constantly moved support for the material is constituted by a bar or roller grate or by a shaking screen. As shown, coke &c. from a conveyer 1 is fed to a grate 2 composed of circular or arc-shaped bars each rotated by a chain drive &c., and is broken by a series of impact members 3 each constituted by a bar 4 provided with pins 5. The bars 4 may be raised by electromagnets, cam discs or air or water pressure and fall by gravity. The lower ends of the pins 5 are flat so that they cannot penetrate the material. The bar 4 may also be formed with cutting edges at places between the bars. Several rows of pins may be used and the weight of the impact members may be varied. The distance apart of the grate bars may be made variable so as. to determine the size of the broken pieces which fall through the bars.
