Abstract

508,627. Sliding- clasp fastenings. MORIN, L. H., and MARINSKY, D. July 11, 1938, Nos. 20527 and 20528. Convention dates, July 27, 1937, and May 20, 1938. [Class 44] The slider of a sliding-clasp fastener is locked by means of a member which rocks about an axis longitudinal of the slider and has a transversely extending projection normally forced into engagement with the fastener elements, but automatically withdrawn when the pull tab is operated to move the slider in either direction along the stringers. Figs. 2 and 4 show a locking member 17 of channel form having one limb 18 deeper than the other limb 19. A spring acts torsionally on the end of the member 17 so that normally an offset lug 26 is forced into engagement with the fastener elements, but when the pull tab is operated to move the slider in either direction along the stringers, the cross-bar 20 of the tab engages the edge of the limb 18 and causes the locking member 17 to rock to the position shown in Fig. 5 and so withdraws the lug 26. Fig. 12 shows a locking member consisting of a shaft 46, 46a having a laterally extending locking lug 51 and an arched cranked portion 48 with cam inclines 49 adapted to be engaged by the cross-bar 60 of a pull device. The shaft is accommodated in the correspondingly recessed upper face of the slider, Fig. 13, and retained by mounting thereover the retaining bridge 39 for the pull device as shown in Fig. 9. The locking device shown in Fig. 16 comprises a locking lug 75 projecting laterally at one end of a plate 69 which is rockably mounted by its legs 73, being located in recesses on the upper face of the slider. The plate is rocked by the crossbar of the pull device engaging the cam inclines 71, 72 or the lower lying bottom edge 70. The locking element and slider may be of non- metallic material.
