[Class 99 (i)] Conical ends a of pipes A to be. joined are clamped against rubber ring C in annular grooves b<1> in an inner ferrule B by clamping members D having convex inner surfaces d<4> which bear upon the conical ends with line contact. The rubber rings project sufficiently to ensure that a tight joint is made even if the pipes are slightly out of line, The grooves b<1> in the ferrule are shaped so that the pattern of the ferrule may easily leave the mould in which the ferrule is to be cast. There may be two or more clamping-members and the plane of division may be a longitudinal plane of the coupling or a plane transverse thereto. Specification 508,223 is referred to.
