Abstract

508,223. Pipe joints. SUTTON, A. W. Jan. 19, 1938, No. 1726. [Class 99 (i)] Part-spherical ends a on pipes A to be joined are clamped by members D, E against rings F carried in annular grooves in a central ferrule B, the ferrule being a cast ferrule and used in the joint without machining, this being made possible by casting the grooves therein of a shape that will allow the pattern of the ferrule to be withdrawn axially from the mould. A central rib C formed on the ferrule is shallower than the thickness of the pipe ends so that the rib fails to touch the clamping-members. The rings are of rubber or like flexible material, and the cross-section of the rings may vary from that shown. The clamping-members D may be in two or more parts and may be bolted longitudinally or transversely as shown.
