[Class 44] A bag fastening, which may also indicate the time of fastening or releasing, comprises a twopart metal casing 7, 8 the part 7 having projections 71 at one side which engage in recesses in part 8 and carrying a spring-pressed latch 10 which engages under a projection 12 on part 8. The casing presents an elongated recess 14 having a lateral slot 16 and open end 15. The mouth of the bag 17 has thickened edges 18, as by strips of metal enclosed in a hem, which are passed through opening 15 into recess 14 as in Fig. 3 and are retained therein by a self-locking slide 20 adapted to cover opening 15. When slide 20 is moved to closed position it carries with it a spring-loaded sliding rod 24 within the casing, and it is retained by a spring-loaded plunger 26 engaging behind the end of rod 24. The casing may enclose a time-piece 29 with a starting or stopping lever 28 operated automatically by the shooting of plunger 26. Slide 20 can be withdrawn only after opening the casing. Opening is effected by inserting a suitable key through an aperture 32 into engagement with an apertured projection 33 carried by the latch and operating to withdraw the latch. A paper seal carried in guides 34 may cover aperture 32.
