507,413. Cables. ALLGEMEINE ELEKTRICITATS-GES. Oct. 14, 1937, No. 28027. Convention date, Oct. 14, 1936. [Class 36] Tn the production of a sector-shaped or other non-circular cable core by the process of deforming from a circular cross-saption into 'the desired non-circular cross-section a core consisting of two or more superposed layers of stranded wires surrounded by insulation, a gap or gaps is or are provided between some or all of the wires of at least the outer layer, the gap or gaps being of such a size as to permit deformation of the core without undue increase in the periphery of the core and consequential stressing of the insulation. Deformation of the circular core into the non-circular core may be effected before or during the stranding of the cores into a cable. The conductor may have a rigid or compressible central core and spacing layers may be provided between the layers of stranded wires. Fig. 2 shows a conductor, before insulation and deformation, in which gaps are provided between all of the wires in each of the layers, whilst Fig. 3 shows another arrangement wherein a single gap is provided in each layer.
