[Class 142 (ii)] Selvedge - forming arrangements.-In a shuttleless loom having a weftlaying member adapted to carry the weft to and fro through the or each shed and a thread-engaging element co-operating with the weft-laying member to form a selvedge, means are provided to hold back the previously formed portion of the selvedge on the thread-engaging element when the latter is moved to take the appropriate thread. The invention is particularly applicableto looms of the form described in Specification 478,529 in which a reciprocating latch needle 2, Fig. 4, engages each loop of weft and draws it through the preceding loop. According to the invention a pin 14 is raised in front of the weft loop f<1>, Fig. 8, when the needle advances to receive the next loop. The pin 14 is carried by a member 15, pivoted at 17 and formed with a cam-slot 16 traversed by a pin. 10 on the needle bar. Instead of being positively actuated in both directions, the member 15 may have single cam surface kept in contact with the pin 10 by a spring or it may be actuated independently of the needle bar. In a modification, an additional thread is supplied to the needle to form a selvedge of the form described in Specification 119,558, [Class 142. (ii)].
